I bought three XL ladies skirts at Goodwill last week, with the hopes of turning them into summer clothes for Sweet A. She doesn't have much for the warmer weather (if it ever comes!) and I had the urge to sew for her. Two are cotton, and the middle one is a knit. I spent about $11 total.

I chopped up one of the skirts, which happened to be lined (more coordinating fabric!) and made a little tiered skirt with a contrasting lining, which doesn't really show in the pictures. Sorry they're blurry- she doesn't stop moving. Then I used this great tutorial to make her a matching shirt from an old t-shirt. I will probably re-make it since the tutorial looks much cuter and mine ended up looking a little like a bikini top on a toddler...I should have actually followed the directions.

you. are. so. amazing.
So cute! I love Goodwill for its prices, clothes, and things I can cut up and make into something new. Sometimes that's the best fabric store (and button store :).
You'll have to stop by Talk Time soon. I'm about to post some pictures of some skirts I just made. I have to finish running the drawstring and then I'll post some pictures.
I'm gonna send you an email comment :)
Awesome! The other day, on a whim, I made a ladies' denim dress into a new-favorite denim skirt for one of my girls. So fun. Lately, I've also taken to altering oversized shirts from Goodwill that I like (cool rayon prints & Hawaiian prints) into shirts that fit me!
Very creative! That blog tutorial is amazing. What an adorable dress!! I wish there was some way to do that for myself. I just need a massive, tall man who doesn't want his dress shirt anymore. Or maybe I could improvise with something else :-)
Have you seen this site? I picked up some ideas for girl's shirt dresses. http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorials.html
I've been getting a jump start on Spring sewing for my girls as well. Although I have to admit I just bought sale fabric at Hobby Lobby and have been following patterns (I feel so uncreative) but it's still fun and rewarding :o)
How fun! Love repurposed clothing... so frugal and creative. :)
