What I learned this week

I spend over 5 ½ hours a day preparing to feed my children and then actually feeding them. I’m awake 17 hours a day so that’s about 30% of my day! If you add in meal planning and grocery shopping every two weeks (not to mention the little trips in between for things I’ve inadvertently forgot), and reading cooking magazines and blogs the number goes up. I think I’ll just consider “feeding” my new favorite pastime, and then it will seem like I’m enjoying myself all day long.

5 1/2 hours a day? Is that possible?

Let's see here: 2 1/2 hours nursing,
about an 1 1/2 hours each day preparing food for meals (averaged out...when you add in making bread a few loaves at a time, making other treats, etc.). Add another 1 1/2 eating food with my kids (or trying to get them to eat) and that's not even counting time spent on dishes! I'm sure it's not that much more than most other nursing moms, but it struck me as a lot of food-centered hours.

It is amazing how much time we can spend nursing and feeding our families, isn't it!? :-)
