the count

35 tomato plants
20 white onions
16 red onions
10 garlic
8 each green peppers, leeks, swiss chard, beets, cucumbers
6 red peppers
4 each spinach, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, swiss chard
3 thyme
2 basil
1 1/2 cilantro
1 very bad sunburn (just in time for my trip to Florida!)

Still to plant: green beans, corn, radishes, squash.

I'm obviously feeling much better, but if I want to stay that way I'd better get to bed. Lots of pictures and more (somewhat) interesting posts coming.

Dear blog...

I know we've been on a long break, but I think I'm ready to commit. My affections have been elsewhere, although I haven't forgotten about you. BUT, the EVERY DAY IN MAY blog challenge will soon be here, and I think it will be just what I need to fan the flames of my love/hate relationship with you.

Here's where my heart (and time) have been these last few months:

All the other pictures need to be taken off the camera, but that gives me something for next week, right? See you then!

Homemade Lara Bars and a Groupon for sale

Hello friends!

Long time no entry.

For weeks I've been excited about passing along this recipe for Lara Bars, because who doesn't LOVE Lara Bars? A friend of mine sent this to me, and we tried it out a few weeks ago as a Sunday treat. I even did a taste test, and the homemade bars won against the packaged variety, but I guess that's no huge surprise since the winners were fresh. Camilla, at Enlightened Cooking has tons of variations so the sky's the limit! We started with the chocolate variety (of course) but I plan to branch out to some fruity versions soon.

Which brings me to my second point. Last week I purchased two Groupon deals for two $25 gift certificate to Nutty Guys, which sells all sorts of nuts, dried fruit, nut flours and butters, candy, and granola. My plan was to stock up on fruits and nuts so I could make a pantry full of Lara Bars. When I read the fine print, I realized only one Groupon could be used per account. So, is anyone interested in purchasing a $25 Nutty Guys gc for $10?  I love Groupon- I've snagged many great deals through that site! If you are interested in the gc just leave a comment and let me know.

Enjoy the Lara Bars! I wish I had taken a picture of ours, but I'm afraid they disappeared before I could snap a shot.
